During the academic year, foreign students in Ireland are permitted to work up to 20 hours a week. Students must be enrolled full-time in a program of study that lasts at least a year to be eligible.

Getting an Irish Student Visa

Take to see if your nationality is one of the more than 70 that are exempt from student visa requirements before you apply for an Irish visa! If so, you might not even need to submit a student visa application. When you arrive in Ireland, you will nevertheless need to present further documentation.

Otherwise, you will require a Long Stay Visa (often referred to as a “D” visa) if your course of study lasts longer than 90 days. Apply through the AVATS Online Facility in Ireland. You’ll require additional paperwork, such as a letter of application, enrollment documentation, and more. Lastly, after landing, you must register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).
